A.A. Bondy - Believers was my favorite this year. I actually was turned onto him recently, first listening to his previous release When The Devil’s Loose. This was one of those records that I played nonstop (in my car, computer, iPhone - any chance I had to listen to music). It’s such a dense record, with such a deep aesthetic and (haunting) vibe. Every time I listen to it, there’s so much more I pick up on. All the while, such a simple, minimalistic approach. It really allows for every vocal melody, guitar progression, drum groove- to really stand on its own and breathe for what it is. As a songwriter, I find that really hard to do. This album was definitely a game changer for me, and I’ve found a lot of inspiration through it.
I’ll probably have some follow up posts with other records I loved this year. Twas a good year.
